With regard to the commemoration of World Water Day 2018, on March 22, 2018 the Rainwater Collection System was inaugurated at the School of Higher Secondary Level of Irapuato, which is one of the 11 schools that make up the Higher Secondary Level of the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. Over the past year, within the school, the healthy and sustainable consumption of water has been promoted in conjunction with the reduction of consumption of bottled water and sweetened beverages. The overall aim is to promote a healthier drinking habits as well as sustainable practices.
In keeping with this, the School of Higher Secondary Level of Irapuato has a wide expanse of green areas that are indicative of continuous watering, which is normally carried out with potable water. However, to make better use of drinking water a strategy was put in place to implement a SUSTAINABLE alternative: “A RAIN WATER COLLECTION SYSTEM”. This will facilitate a more ecologically friendly and conscientious practice whereby potable water is replaced by rainwater. The initiative will give room for the students to reflect and enable them to reaffirm their commitment to conserve and use water resources more responsibly.
The inauguration of the “RAIN WATER COLLECTION SYSTEM” took place as a central activity, complemented by conferences, stands and workshops; and supported by key institutions concerned with water in the State of Guanajuato, Mexico.
